Steps to Calculate the Quantity of Cement, Sand, and Aggregate in Concrete Casting

1. Calculate the Volume of Concrete

  • First, we need to find the volume of the concrete. Use the formula:
    Volume=Length × Width × Depth
  • For example: If Length = 20 ft, Width = 10 ft, Depth = 0.5 ft
    Volume= 20×10×0.5= 100 cu.ft

2. Add Dry Volume (for wastage and bulking)

  • After drying, the volume of the casting shrinks, so we need to calculate the dry volume of concrete. Use the formula:
  • Dry volume = Wet volume × 1.54
    Dry Volume = 100×1.54=154 cu.ft

3. Use Mix Ratio

  • Assume 1:2:4 mix (Cement : Sand : Aggregate)
  • Total parts = 1 + 2 + 4 = 7

4. Calculate Individual (Cement, Sand, Aggregate) Quantities

  • Cement = (1/7) × 154 = 22 cu.ft
    Convert to bags (1 bag = 1.25 cu.ft)
    Cement bags = 22/1.25 = 17.6 bags
  • Sand = (2/7) × 154 = 44 cu.ft
  • Aggregate = (4/7) × 154 = 88 cu.ft

Final Result

  • Cement: 17.6 bags
  • Sand: 44 cu.ft
  • Aggregate: 88 cu.ft
